3.5 stars Delayed Review. Visited on December 28,2019. Took my Mom here for her birthday. She wanted barbecue and I'm a good daughter. Instead of going to our usual place, I decided to try something new. Not a bad place. It has character and that huge pig sculpture/picture is amazing. Service was good and the sides were delicious. The smoked meats were ok but cold. It did not hit the spot in my quest for great barbecue in RVA. The collard greens were unique to me. They had a little heat and the liquid was a tomato base, like stewed tomatoes. It was enjoyable. The real star of the show (for me) was the pimento cheese Mac and cheese. It was delicious and not dry. I would return and try them again. I would love to try an appetizer or two and try dessert.

I had been trying to make it here and finally made it for date night with the hubby. Upon entering the place was partially quiet and inviting. We were quickly seated at a booth near the bar. I looked at the setup on the table and immediately knew I made a good decision, I'm basing this on the paper towels/napkins on the table. It's a sure tell sign your in for good bbq. The menu had a good number of options. We decided on the egg rolls as an appetizer they had pulled pork, collard greens, carrots and Mac and cheese. OMG lets just say that little egg roll packed a big punch of flavor, it was kinda like bbq heaven. Moving on to dinner I got the brisket sandwich with collards and baked bean and my husband got the el jeffe. So I was kinda full when my food arrived but determined to get a full picture of Fatty smokes I decided to push through and eat my food. The baked beans were similar to the ones I make at home clearly didn't come out of a can made with three types of beans. They were sweet and had good flavor, definitely a solid product. The star of the plate didn't come to play and would definitely be memorable, the collard greens were sooooo delicious. I typically don't like collards when eating out but these had the right amount of spice. The brisket sandwich was a close second the bread was tasty and the brisket was moist with good flavor. Oh and we had complimentary pork rinds/skins that were tasty not too salty. I would definitely stop by and grab those with a beer. All and all I would definitely return. Be careful where you park I would hate for you to get a parking ticket like i did.

There's something to be said for advertising because I could see their big neon "BBQ JOINT" sign from my hotel room. BBQ? Yes, please! I did not make a reservation on this weeknight and that worked out fine. There were several tables open and about half of the bar, so I took a seat at the bar where I was well cared for by Nathan. Thanks, Nathan! Their plates are mostly set up as sandwiches, so I chose the brisket sandwich minus the bun. I also upgraded to the "make it a Fatty" for double the meat. It did not take long to arrive with cole slaw (and extra cole slaw because I like cole slaw). Three sauces on the table, two ketchup based and one mustard. I liked all three but only used the tiniest little bit. Nathan tried to offer me dessert but I switched it up and ordered a quarter pound of pulled pork instead. This was an excellent dessert for someone on a keto diet. More meat! My only complaint is the price for beers. $4.50 for a 12 ounce Michelob Ultra is a bit high. Preface: Am a vegetarian and I would still come back! Friends rage over the happy hour and the food, so that's why we came to check it out. The food for me was pretty good; we got the side sampler for our main course. Do yourself a favor and get the mac and cheese as well as the fried green tomatoes(bacon on side for your meaty friends). Two of the best dishes in the restaurant for a vegetarian. The meat eaters rejoiced with the portions and " juicy, fall of the bone meat." We cut cake for a birthday and they did not charge us a cake fee like other places in the area. Wonderful little place. Come check it out!

Came here for a happy hour event. The space is pretty big, bright and inviting! I hadn't noticed it was here before this event. I had some burnt ends, which were so tender and juicy. The pimento Mac & cheese balls were scrumptious. Surprisingly, I was not a fan of the bbq egg rolls. For all the items rolled into one, It had no flavor. I had the one belle swoop to drink, what's a light refreshing drink! I didn't get any pictures because I scarfed it all down.
